Betancort joined Real in 1961 from his local team Las Palmas.
He was loaned out to Deportivo for a season before returning to Madrid in 1963.
He was first-choice keeper for Los Merengues between 1963 and 1971 -helping them to win the European Cup in 1966 plus six Spanish league titles – before winding down his career back at Las Palmas.
Betancort played twice for Spain in 1965 and was a reserve at the 1966 World Cup finals.
There will be a minute’s silence in his honour before Real’s home game against Levante Sunday.
